12:30 -15:00 “Assaulted Dream”, a Special Film Presentation from Mexico -- presented by Juliana Morris (GR) Juliana Morris, who grew up here at UUFSB, will be presenting a film on Sunday, November 15, at 12:30 in the Green Room. Juliana just returned from a year’s experience working in a migrant shelter on the Mexico/Guatemala border and she is anxious to share some of what she has learned. She has been given permission to screen the acclaimed documentary “Assaulted Dream,” directed by Uli Stelzner. It offers a personal view into the lives of Central American migrants who have entered Mexico with the dream of making their way northward to the United States to make a better life for themselves and their families. The stories of the migrants convey some of the bitter realities that Juliana learned about firsthand during her time in Mexico. Many migrants are seriously injured as they attempt to ride north on freight trains. The vulnerable migrant population is victimized by thieves, gangs, “coyotes”(paid smugglers), the police and the military. Muggings, beatings, and rapes of migrants are commonplace. The documentary provides a window into a world that most Americans know little or nothing about. People who have attended presentations report being deeply touched by the experience. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles. The film, which lasts 84 minutes, will be followed by a question and answer session.
